Six Commands from the Upper Room

This powerful message invites us into the upper room with Jesus and His disciples, focusing on six imperatives that Christ gave during those final, intimate moments before the cross. The first and perhaps most foundational command is this: trust Christ. Drawing from John 14-16, we're reminded that Jesus spoke these words when everything seemed to be unraveling. The religious authorities opposed Him, Peter was about to deny Him, and the disciples' world was crumbling. Yet in that darkness, Jesus commanded them not to let their hearts be troubled, but to believe in God and believe in Him. This wasn't a suggestion but a divine imperative. The message beautifully illustrates trust through the simple act of sitting in a chair - when we sit, we give our full weight to something we believe is capable of holding us. That's what trusting God looks like spiritually. We see this contrast vividly in the story of the twelve spies. Ten saw giants and problems; Joshua and Caleb saw the same circumstances but had a different spirit because they were thinking about God's promises and power rather than earthly obstacles. The challenge for us is clear: are we trying to hold ourselves up through our own strength, or are we resting our full weight on God's faithfulness? When we trust Him completely, we find peace, joy, and rest even in the wilderness. The question isn't whether God is capable - it's whether we'll actually get in the wheelbarrow and let Him carry us across.
